Memorials

Memorial offerings are devotional requests to honor or remember loved ones. Unlike Mass intentions (which are tied to a specific Mass), memorials are time-based offerings that span one or more days—such as a sanctuary candle burning in memory of someone you love.

What are memorial offerings?

Memorial offerings allow you to dedicate a devotional item or period to honor a loved one. Common examples include:

  • Sanctuary candle — a candle burning near the tabernacle for a set period
  • Altar flowers — floral arrangements dedicated in memory of someone
  • Other parish-specific offerings — each parish configures its own memorial types

The parish sets the duration (which may be one day, a week, or another period) and the suggested offering amount for each type.

Finding available memorials

Navigate to Memorials from your parish's menu. You'll see a calendar showing available memorial periods.

Understanding the display:

  • Green events — available for request
  • Gray events — already reserved or fulfilled

Use the filters at the top to narrow your search by location or memorial type. Click any available memorial to see details and request it.

Alternative view

Some parishes offer a card-based browser view showing upcoming memorials organized by month. Look for a toggle if you prefer browsing this way.

Requesting a memorial

  1. Click an available memorial on the calendar.
  2. In the dialog that opens, review the memorial details (type, dates, location, offering amount).
  3. Enter the name of the person being honored in the Offered For field.
  4. Add any special notes (optional).
  5. Fill in your contact information.
  6. Click Add to Cart.

The memorial is held temporarily while you complete checkout—the same cart and checkout process used for Mass intentions.

How memorials differ from Mass intentions

Memorial offerings honor someone through a devotional item or period, while Mass intentions ask that a specific Mass be offered for someone. Both are meaningful ways to remember loved ones, but they serve different purposes.

After you request

Once you add a memorial to your cart and complete payment:

  1. Your memorial is confirmed for the specified dates
  2. You receive a confirmation email
  3. The parish prepares the offering (lighting the candle, arranging flowers, etc.)
  4. Your loved one is honored during that period

Track your memorial requests in your dashboard alongside your Mass intentions.
