Your Shopping Cart and Checkout
When you request a Mass intention, memorial, or other offering, it goes into your shopping cart. This page explains how to review your cart, understand the timer, and complete checkout.
Viewing your cart
Click the cart icon (usually in the header or as a floating button) to open your shopping cart. You'll see all items you've added, along with details specific to each type.
For scheduled Mass intentions: The cart shows the intention text, Mass date and time, location, celebrant (or "Priest to be determined"), and stipend amount.
For unscheduled intentions: You'll see the intention text and can adjust the quantity using the +/- buttons.
For Gregorian Mass series: The cart displays the date range (30 consecutive days), the deceased person's name, and the total stipend.
For memorials: You'll see the memorial type, date range, location, and offering amount.
Each item shows badges indicating its type (such as "Private," "Unscheduled," "Gregorian Series," or "Memorial Offering").
The reservation timer
When you add items to your cart, the system reserves your slots temporarily. A timer at the top of the cart shows how much time remains.
How it works:
- Reservations are held for approximately 15 minutes
- The timer counts down in real time (you don't need to refresh)
- When time runs low (under 60 seconds), the timer turns amber as a warning
- If the timer expires, your items are released and the cart empties
Starting checkout extends your reservation by another 15 minutes, giving you time to complete payment.
If your reservation expires, the slots become available to others. You can add the same items again if they're still available, but there's no guarantee.
Managing cart items
To remove an item: Click the trash icon next to the item. You'll be asked to confirm before it's removed.
To clear everything: Click Clear Cart at the top of the cart to remove all items at once.
To adjust quantity: For unscheduled intentions, use the +/- buttons to request multiple intentions. Each additional intention multiplies the stipend.
Additional offering and transaction fee
Depending on your parish's settings, you may see additional options at checkout.
Additional Offering
If enabled, an optional field lets you add an extra donation above the stipend amount. This additional offering supports the parish and is separate from the intention stipends.
Cover Processing Fee
If enabled, a toggle lets you help offset credit card processing costs. When enabled, a small fee (typically 2.9% + $0.30) is added to your total so the parish receives the full stipend amount.
Both options are optional. Your total at the bottom reflects the stipends, any additional offering, and the processing fee if selected.
Completing checkout
When you're ready, click Proceed to Checkout. You'll be redirected to a secure payment page powered by Stripe.
- Enter your card details (number, expiration, security code).
- Review the total amount.
- Click to complete payment.
After successful payment, you'll return to a confirmation page showing that your request was received.
You don't need an account to check out. However, creating an account lets you track your intentions, access receipts anytime, and speeds up future requests.
After payment succeeds
The success page confirms your payment and shows:
- A confirmation message
- Your reference number (save this if you're a guest)
- A link to view your receipt (may take a moment to generate)
- Options to request another intention or return home
What happens next:
- You receive a confirmation email with your receipt
- Parish staff reviews your request
- Your intention is scheduled or confirmed
- If applicable, it appears in the parish bulletin
If payment is cancelled
If you cancel during Stripe checkout or navigate away, you'll land on a return page. From there you can:
- Return to your cart (items may still be reserved)
- Retry payment if you have pending items
- Continue shopping
If your reservation expired while you were away, you'll need to add items again.
Troubleshooting
My cart is empty but I just added something
Your reservation may have expired. Add the items again if slots are still available.
I got an error about a slot no longer being available
Someone else completed checkout for that slot while you were browsing. Try selecting a different Mass or check back later.
The checkout button is disabled
Your parish may not have online payments enabled, or your cart may be empty. Contact the parish office if you need to request intentions offline.
I didn't receive a confirmation email
Check your spam folder. If it's not there, verify you entered the correct email address. You can also view your receipt from the success page or your dashboard.
